Williamsburg

Brooklyn

Where it is. Williamsburg is on the East River in north Brooklyn, across from the Lower East Side, with Greenpoint to the north. The L stops at Bedford Avenue, one stop from Manhattan, the J, M and Z cross the Williamsburg Bridge, the G runs along the eastern side and NYC Ferry stops at North and South Williamsburg.

Everyday life. Bedford Avenue is the main street, and Wythe Avenue and the waterfront add hotels, restaurants and bars. Domino Park and Marsha P. Johnson State Park sit on the water, and McCarren Park has a large public pool, a track and fields.

The homes. About half of homes are rentals, and condos make up close to three in ten, most built since 2000, including the towers along Kent Avenue. One- to three-family houses make up about one in twelve homes, and co-ops are rare.

Standouts. Domino Park sits beside the former Domino Sugar Refinery, whose landmarked building has been converted into offices. Smorgasburg, the weekend food market, runs at Marsha P. Johnson State Park in season.
