Greenpoint
Brooklyn
Where it is. Greenpoint is Brooklyn’s northernmost neighborhood, bordered by the East River to the west, Newtown Creek to the north and east, and Williamsburg to the south. The G stops at Greenpoint Avenue and Nassau Avenue, and NYC Ferry stops at India Street.
Everyday life. Manhattan Avenue is the main shopping street, and Franklin Street has cafés, bakeries and wine bars. McGolrick Park sits in the middle of the neighborhood, with McCarren Park on its southern edge.
The homes. More than half of homes are rentals, most in prewar buildings, and about one in six are in one- to three-family rowhouses. Condos make up about one in six homes, nearly all built since 2000, including the towers at Greenpoint Landing on the waterfront.
Standouts. The Greenpoint Historic District, around Milton and Noble Streets, has well-preserved 19th-century rowhouses. Polish bakeries and delis line Manhattan Avenue, and the Newtown Creek Nature Walk runs along the creek.
