Park Slope
Brooklyn
Where it is. Park Slope runs along the western edge of Prospect Park, with brownstone blocks climbing the hill from Fourth Avenue up to the park. The 2 and 3 stop at Grand Army Plaza, the F and G along Seventh Avenue and 15th Street, the R along Fourth Avenue and the B and Q at Seventh Avenue on the north end.
Everyday life. Seventh Avenue and Fifth Avenue are the two main streets, Seventh with neighborhood shops and casual restaurants and Fifth with a wider mix of dining and bars. Prospect Park is part of daily life, with a 3.35-mile loop, the Long Meadow and the Saturday Greenmarket at Grand Army Plaza.
The homes. About a third of homes are rentals, mostly prewar, and more than a quarter are in one- to three-family brownstones and limestones. Condos and co-ops each make up about one in six homes, with prewar co-ops along Prospect Park West and newer condos toward Fourth Avenue.
Standouts. The Park Slope Historic District covers much of the neighborhood. The Park Slope Food Coop on Union Street, a member-run grocery founded in 1973, is a local institution.
