Bayside

Queens

Where it is. Bayside is in northeast Queens, along Little Neck Bay near the Nassau County border. There’s no subway here: the LIRR Port Washington branch stops at Bayside station, and most residents get around by car or bus.

Everyday life. Bell Boulevard is the main street, with restaurants, Korean and Greek spots and sports bars. Away from Bell Boulevard, the streets are quiet and residential, with driveways and backyards.

The homes. More than half of Bayside’s homes are one- to three-family houses, many of them detached, in Tudor, Colonial and Cape styles. Co-ops make up about a quarter, nearly all built after World War II, including the garden co-op complexes of Bay Terrace, and there are also condo buildings and some rentals.

Standouts. Fort Totten Park, a former Army fort on the water, and Crocheron Park sit along the bay, and the Joe Michaels Mile path runs beside Little Neck Bay for walking and biking. District 26 is consistently one of the highest-performing school districts in the city.
